Built in 1947 by A&J Inglis of Pointhouse, Glasgow, the Paddle Steamer Waverley is now the last seagoing paddle steamer in the world. Purchased by the Paddle Steamer Preservation Society from Caledonian MacBrayne for £1 in 1973, the ship has recently undergone a major rebuild which will see her sail well into the 21st Century |

The music you hear is "The Arrival of the Queen of Sheba" by Handel, a piece traditionally played aboard the Paddle Steamer WAVERLEY in tribute whenever she passed the Clyde Turbine Steamer QUEEN MARY (pictured below) in the magnificent Kyles of Bute. Built in 1933, this wonderful ship is still in existence as a restaurant ship on the Thames Embankment in London
